Our Mission

We are a 501(c) organization dedicated to providing toys and other care items to childhood cancer patients undergoing treatment. Based out of Atlanta, we support metro-area hospitals by delivering items like movies, video games, toys, and gift cards.

100% of all donations go directly into supporting families confronted by childhood illness.

Compassion

We work with families, hospitals and other charitable organizations to provide toys to kids undergoing intensive medical treatments. We know the positive impact simple comforts can make in tough times.

Charity

Donations go directly to items like toys, movies, and video games for pediatric oncology centers to give to patients. We also give out things like gift cards and vouchers for entertainment and family outings.

Community

We hold motorcycle rides, brunches, auctions, and other events each year. Everything we do comes with the help and support of local businesses and community organizations that we appreciate so much.

I don’t know what we would have done without our Child Life Specialists. Each and every one of them hold an extremely special place in my heart! They are the ones who made the hospital “fun”. Joey loved his Child Life Specialist! He looked forward to seeing her and harassing her. Joey’s relationship with his Child Life Specialist is the reason Joey’s Toy Box was born.

Each year White Oak Elementary honors ONE student in the school with the "Spirit of Joey" Award. The student who wins this award must exemplify the spirit of Joey. This student must have demonstrated at least one of the following: Compassion for others, Selflessness, Willingness to help others, Consideration for those less fortunate, Being an inspiration to others, Being a cheerleader for those less fortunate, and finally, Having a kind and gentle heart. The teachers should submit a short summary of why they feel the nominated student qualifies for the award. The criteria for this award can also be discussed with classmates if the teacher would like to include student input prior to submitting his/her nomination. The administrators, counselors and specials teachers will discuss the students nominated and will select a winner of the award. This will be kept secret until the grade level ceremony of the nominated student. This is a lot to ask of an elementary student. And yet, they never cease to amaze me! It is really cool to watch the kids listen to the description of winner. They are trying figure it out. Some of them guess right away, some it takes a little longer, and when the winner is announced, they all kinda shake their heads as to say, yep, he/she deserved this award. Here is this years winner as read by White Oak Elementary's Principal, Mr. Clarke: Most years all the 5th grade teachers get together and discuss the best option for Joey Doolittle, not this year; this year we all knew who displays these behaviors consistently. This child is kind to ALL, this child (day in and day out) puts others first, he is always asking what he can do to help. In fact, just last week Mrs. Young made the comment to the 5th grade teachers that this student was the ONLY one to say "Thank You" to her for giving them an awesome AR water party. His caring heart and natural instincts to help classmates and teachers make him one of the most compassionate students in 5th grade. His precious smile and heart of gold light up the Rutledge Room every single day. With that being said, I would like to proudly announce that this year's recipient for the Joey Doolittle Award is ALEX WATKINS! Congratulations Alex!! Also, congratulations to Alex's parents on raising such a fine young man.

With 2018 coming to a close, we would like to say Thank You to each and every one of you for your love and support of Joey's Toy Box. It is hard to believe that it was 10 years ago that Joey asked that fateful question: "Mom, Would People Give A Little Kid Money?". I believe that he knew the answer to that question. He knew what he was laying at our feet. He knew the "gift" he would leave behind. It is because of you, "Team Joey", that we were able to give out over 7000 individual toys to our young cancer warriors this year. We also gave blankets, hats, costumes, sealed stuffed animals, etc,... We quietly helped families in need of a little pick me up by sending a care package of a favorite toy or a box of costumes or an item to help place a smile on a little face. We sent cards to Mom & Dad, each card had a monetary gift to help offset expenses or just allow for a family fun day. At the request of the Child Life Specialists, we started delivering essential oils. This is a new program and we are excited to hear how the oils have aided our kids/families with neausea or anxiety. 2018 also brought growth. We started delivering toys to MD Anderson in Houston, Texas and have a team of volunteers standing by to aid and assist any of our "Team Joey" families having to travel to Houston for treatment. And we will kick off 2019 by adding the Emory Windship Cancer Institute - Emory Proton Therapy Center to our Joey's Toy Box family. There are only 27 centers in the United States that offer Proton Therapy to patients. The Emory Proton Therapy Center will include kids not only from Georgia and the United States but from all over the world. Once again, Thank You "Team Joey"!!! Happy New Year!!

Hannah is an amazing young lady and now she is officially 10 years Cancer Free!! She is also the very first recipient of a “special” gift from Joey’s Toy Box. To celebrate her special day, Hannah decided that she would like to raise money to purchase toys for Joey’s Toy Box. When her wrestling team heard about what she was doing they took it one step further. Last night during the Coweta County Wrestling Championships, the Newnan High School Wrestling Team surprise Hannah with a check for JTB. When Mr. Stout of Tim Stout & Associates heard about what Hannah wanted to do, he took it a step further! Together they raised $2000 in honor of Hannah and her 10 Year Cancer Free Anniversary! As an added bonus for the night, Hannah is now the Champion for her weight class. Congratulations Hannah!

About us

JTB was founded by our son, Joey Doolittle. Joey was a lifelong cancer warrior who was diagnosed with Rhabdomyosarcoma at only 3 months of age. Throughout Joey's life, he underwent numerous chemotherapy protocols, surgeries, and radiation treatments. Toys provided by the hospitals always seemed to make his treatments a little more bearable. During the twilight of Joey's young life, when he was the sickest, he decided to conduct a fundraiser to raise money to buy the other kids at the hospital toys. On June 7, 2008, Joey raised $1,800 by organizing a "cycle-a-thon" at a local gym in Peachtree City, GA. A few days later, Joey made his first and only delivery of toys to the AFLAC Children's Cancer Center at Scottish Rite hospital in Atlanta. On July 4, 2008, after a lifetime battle against cancer, Joey peacefully passed away in his mother's arms.

Joey's impact on his family, friends, and other childhood cancer patients continues to evolve and flourish. His simple dream of helping the other kids and their families continues to live on because of the incredible community of volunteers that have felt Joey in their hearts. With no paid employees, we are a 100% volunteer army dedicated to the JTB mission. We operate this way so that we can put every dollar towards helping these kids and their families. We have dedicated ourselves to being good stewards of the money, time, and efforts of our volunteer community. We will continue Joey's mission with the compassion and integrity that he had when he started it... simple as that.
